This year is an especially exciting one for National Tree Day, as Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event celebrates its 30th anniversary. For three decades, millions of Australians have come together to restore local environments, connect with nature and create greener communities. Now it's your school's turn to be part of the story.
Schools Tree Day takes place on Friday 24 July, though schools are encouraged to host a planting event at any time throughout the school year that suits their timetable. Whether you're planting a handful of native shrubs in a garden bed, creating habitat for local wildlife or transforming an unused corner of the school grounds, every planting makes a difference.
More importantly, it gives students the chance to experience environmental action first-hand.
Learning beyond the classroom
Schools Tree Day is much more than a planting day. It brings together science, geography, sustainability and wellbeing through hands-on learning that helps students develop a stronger connection with the natural world.
Working together outdoors encourages teamwork, problem-solving and community spirit, while giving students the opportunity to see how positive environmental action can create lasting change.
To help make planning easy, National Tree Day offers a wide range of free resources for educators, including curriculum-aligned lesson plans, activity books for different year levels, posters, social media resources and a practical guide for hosting your event.
Join the celebration
Whether your school is participating for the first time or has been planting with us for years, we'd love to see your Schools Tree Day in action.
This year, thanks to our Major Sponsor Coles, there's even more reason to share your experience. Schools, families and community volunteers who take part in National Tree Day can enter the National Tree Day Giveaway by posting a photo from their planting event on Instagram using #NationalTreeDayGiveaway. Ten winners will each receive a $250 Coles gift card, helping to reward communities for getting involved and inspiring others to do the same.
